Building permits are processed at the Buildings/Housing office at 700 Somerset Street (directly at the back of the former Train Station Cafe off of Monmouth Street at the railroad tracks).

Please advised that the Gloucester City Housing Code Section 55-13 requirements have been modified due the COVID — 19 Emergency as stated in Gloucester City Resolution #R167 - 2020. Certificate of Occupancy and Transfer of Title inspections will be scheduled and performed effective October 1, 2020.

Effective October 1, 2020, all property owners must obtain a Certificate of Occupancy in accordance with Gloucester City Code Section 55 —13. The waiver of this requirement due to the COVID — 19 Emergency has been rescinded.

Any property owner that has not applied for a Certificate of Occupancy or Transfer of Title due to the waiver of inspection requirements during the COVID — 19 Emergency must apply prior to December 31, 2020. After this date, code enforcement action may be taken.

Please note that the property owner is responsible for ensuring that the requirements of Gloucester City Code Section 55 are met. These requirements can be found online here.
