Carr's Hardware: A Gloucester City Tradition of Service and Community
UEZ logo

Nestled on Broadway, Carr's Hardware has been a Gloucester City staple for 50 years, proudly serving the community with old-school charm and personalized service. Originally founded on Monmouth Street by the Carr family's grandfather, the business was later moved to its current location by Jean Carr and her late husband in 1974. Today, Jean Carr along with her daughters Kathy Carr and Sue Fitzpatrick and her grandson Nicholas Carr continue to provide customers with exceptional products and service with a smile!

Carr’s Hardware isn't your average hardware store. It's a place where locals come to get keys cut, screens repaired or made, and find everything they need for plumbing, electrical, and painting projects. The store offers a full line of Milwaukee tools, seasonal products, and an array of stainless steel and basic hardware. It's the kind of shop where the staff knows your name, listens to your needs, and goes the extra mile to provide advice on all your projects.

But Carr’s isn't just about hardware. It’s about giving back to the community - the store has deep roots in the community, supporting local fundraisers, sports teams, and contributing to town events like the summer concert series and holiday events. The owners are active members of the Gloucester City Brooklawn Business Association, the Economic Development Corporation, and the Rotary Club, further extending their commitment to the town.

During the holidays, Carr’s Hardware transforms into something more than a shop. They participate in the Gloucester City Brooklawn Rotary Giving Tree program which provides gifts for local children, spreading cheer and making the season brighter for many families. It’s moments like these that show Carr's Hardware isn’t just about business—it's about making Gloucester City a better place.

For 50 years, Carr's Hardware has weathered economic changes, and though they understand some might mistakenly view Gloucester as unsafe, Jean and her family stand by their town. They know the heart of Gloucester is its people—and that heart beats strong. And with the UEZ offering lower sales tax for customers, it’s the perfect place for locals to shop and save. So, next time you need hardware, consider stopping by Carr’s Hardware. Experience the personalized service that only a locally owned, family-run business can offer. And remember, when you #ShopGloucester, you’re supporting the businesses that support the community.
